Pricing your services with confidence

Ask a family-service owner how they set their prices and you'll often hear some version of: I looked at what someone nearby charged and went a little under. It feels safe. It's also how good businesses quietly starve.

Price is a signal as much as a number. Set it too low and you don't just earn less per hour — you attract customers who shop on price alone and churn the moment someone undercuts you. The customers you actually want are looking for reliability, and reliability has a floor.

Start from your real costs, not your competitor's sticker. Add up what an hour of service actually requires: staff pay, travel, supplies, the unbillable admin around each job, and a margin that lets you invest in doing the work well. That number is your floor.

Then package thoughtfully. Recurring plans, bundles, and add-ons let customers choose the level that fits them while smoothing your revenue across the month. A predictable base of recurring bookings is worth far more than a calendar full of one-offs.

Whatever you land on, present it plainly and consistently. Clear pricing you can explain in a sentence builds more trust than a discount you had to talk yourself into.
